Army and «Memphis` mafia»

March 24, 1958 Elvis Presley was called up to the United States Army, tried to get the singer since 1956. The news of the resignation of Presley in the Army led to protests in the country among young people: to the army and the president were to rescind the letter with the requirements of the service for the singer. Meanwhile, it was a mutually beneficial enterprise: for Presley's - to increase its reputation among the wider population (although he is experienced internally, that his career will come to an end), for the army - to raise, thus the prestige of services and to attract new soldiers. In autumn 1958, Presley is sent to the 3rd armored division stationed in West Germany, in Fridberg of Frankfurt. But before this, in the privacy of the singer happened tragedy: August 14, in Memphis and his mother died.

Presley served in the army of regular duties, along with other series. Nevertheless, his spare time he spent in a big way, inaccessible by other soldiers: visiting cabaret in Paris, traveled to Italy, buying cars (and only once, in June 1958, recorded in the studio). Presley lived in separate apartments with their friends, out of America. A little later, this constant entourage of friends and relatives received in the press nicknamed «Memphis’s mafia». Some members of «mafia» Elvis still know from school, some have appeared in the service in the army. Gradually, a core of «Memphis’s mafia», which periodically to add new members. They are surrounded by Presley during his later life day and night, performing a variety of functions: bodyguards, lackeys, concert promoters, musicians, and, finally, just friends, without whom Presley could not do. They were presented to him at a party in Germany, 14-year-old Priscilla Bule, which will soon take the life of Elvis in a prominent place.
